Activity During WWII

Entered the U.S. Army in May 1943. He took basic training at Camp Shelby, MISSISSIPPI AND shipped overseas to Northern Ireland in October 1943 where he received intensive combat training for 6–7 months. His first combat started 1 week after the initial landing in Normandy and continued across France, Belgium, Luxemburg and finally into Germany. Six weeks before the European War ended he was wounded and upon recovery was assigned to an Army post office. He was then transferred into the U.S. Army Air CoRpS In the Mobile Reclamation AND Repair UNIT outside of Kassel, Germany. There he assisted in disassembling and reclaiming parts of downed aircraft. He remained in Kassel, Germany as part of the Occupation forces until December of 1945. He boarded a Liberty Ship to return home in Marseilles, France for a rough 18 day crossing of the Atlantic where he celebrated his 21st birthday and Christmas. Unit: 1st Squad, 3rd Platoon, 11th Infantry, 5th Division (Was part of Patton’s 3rd Army when they went into France).
