HE WAS THE RECIPIENT OF MANY MEDALS DURING HIS MILITARY CAREER AND WAS HONORED MOSTLY WHEN HE RECEIVED THE PURPLE HEART FOR HIS SELFLESS ACTS OF BRAVERY WHILE SERVING ABOARD USS LST-921 WHICH WAS ATTACKED AT 1654 HOURS ON 14 AUGUST 1944 BY U-667 ABOUT 11 MILES SOUTHWEST OF HARTLAND POINT OFF THE CHANNEL ENTRANCE TO BRISTOL, ENGLAND.
