HE ENLISTED AT MARCH FIELD CALIFORNIA ON 12/31/1941. HE WAS RADIO OPERATOR AND WAIST GUNNER ON B-24D BOMBER 'BLONDES AWAY' OF THE 565TH BOMBER SQUADRON, 389TH BOMB GROUP BASED AT ROYAL AIR FORCE HETHEL, ENGLAND. ON 12/1/1943 ON A MISSION TO BOMB THE INDUSTRIAL AREA AT SOLINGEN, GERMANY 'BLONDES AWAY' WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED BY FIGHTER PLANES. THE BOMBER WAS ABLE TO RETURN TO ENGLAND AND CRASH LANDED AT ROYAL AIR FORCE MANSTON EXPLODING ON IMPACT. HE AND 8 OTHER CREW WERE KILLED. HE WAS AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE CROSS, AIR MEDAL AND PURPLE HEART MEDAL.
