Rank: Corporal. He was inducted into the United States Marine Corps July 7, 1941 and received his Basic Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. Served in the Pacific Theater, where he experienced combat as a Rifleman, assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 28th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine 'The Spearhead/Fighting Fifth' Division. On Monday, February 19, 1945 he participated in the amphibious assault in the Battle of Iwo Jima, Code Name: Operation Detachment. He was killed on the first day of the invasion and buried in the U.S. Fifth Marine Division temporary battlefield cemetery on Iwo. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were transferred to Honolulu, with interment in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, 'Punchbowl' Hawaii. Decoration and Citation: Purple Heart. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
