Rank: Private. He was inducted into the United States Marine Corps March 1, 1943 and received his Basic Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Served in the Pacific Theater with the 34th Replacement Draft attached to the 3rd Marine 'Fighting Third' Division. He fought on the Volcanic Island of Iwo Jima (Invasions Dates: February 19-March 26, 1945), Code Name: Operation Detachment. On Tuesday, March 6, 1945 he was killed in action and buried in the U.S. Third Marine Division temporary battlefield cemetery on Iwo. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were returned to his country and family, with interment in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana. He was an American Patriot, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
