Rank: Private. He was inducted into the United States Marine Corps April 4, 1944 and received his Basic Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Served in the Pacific Theater with the 24th Replacement Draft attached to India Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine 'Fighting Fourth' Division. He fought on the Volcanic Island of Iwo Jima (Invasions Dates: February 19-March 26, 1945), Code Name: Operation Detachment. On Thursday, March 15, 1945 he was killed in action and buried in the U.S. Fourth Marine Division temporary battlefield cemetery on Iwo. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were returned to his country and family, with interment in the Princeton IOOF Cemetery, Princeton, Indiana. He was an American Patriot, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
