He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Forces assigned to the 881st Bombardment Squadron, 500th Bombardment Group based in the Mariana Islands during WWII. He completed 33 combat missions as a bombardier and radar navigator pounding strategic targets in Japan from high altitude including the May 26, 1945 bombing of Tokyo that helped to end the war. He received an Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal wit 2 Bronze Stars. He was discharged in 1945 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
