Inducted in April 1943. After basic training in U.S. Army Air Corps sites in North Carolina, studied engineering as a student in Army Specialized Training Program at University of Illinois until program was disbanded. Afterward, served in 3367th Signal Service Battalion in South Pacific until discharged in January 1946. Was a member of a 12-man team engaged in construction of radio communication stations.
