He entered the service on March 10, 1941, serving with Company C, 12th Infantry Regiment. He saw action in Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland, receiving the Purple Heart, one Oak Leaf Cluster, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with three bronze stars, good conduct ribbon and Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged on October 7, 1945 with the rank of Private First Class.
