Rank: Private 1st Class. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps July 24, 1943 and received his Basic Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. Served in the Pacific Theater and experienced combat with Delta Company, the 1st Joint Assault Signal Amphibious Battalion, 4th Marine ‘The Fighting Fourth’ Division. Participated in the amphibious assault against the Japanese forces on the Islands of Kwajalein and Roi-Namur, Kwajalein Atoll (Invasion Dates: January 31-February 3, 1944) Code Name: Operation Flintlock, Marshall Islands Campaign. Tuesday, February 1, 1944 he was killed in action on Roi-Namur and buried in the temporary U.S. Armed Forces battlefield cemetery on Carlos Island. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were returned to his country and family, with interment in the Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Tampico, Illinois. This Marine, an American Patriot, so gallantly gave his life for his country.
