Rank: Corporal. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps January 17, 1942 and received his Basic Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Served in the Pacific Theater and experienced combat while assigned to a Weapons Company, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine ‘The Old Breed’ Division. Participated in the invasion of Guadalcanal (Invasion Dates: August 7, 1942-February 9, 1943) Code Name: Operation Watchtower, Solomon Islands Campaign. Sunday, September 27, 1942 he was killed in action during a fire-fight with the Japanese Armed Forces and buried in the First Marine Division battlefield cemetery on Guadalcanal. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were returned to his country and family, with interment in the County Line Cemetery, Rocky Plains, Georgia. He is honored at the Guadalcanal American Memorial located on Skyline Drive overlooking the town of Honiara. This Marine was an American Patriot, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
