Rank: Private 1st Class. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps January 20, 1942 and received his Basic Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Served in the Pacific Theater and experienced combat as a Rifleman assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine ‘Fighting Third’ Division. Participated in the amphibious assault on the Island of Guam, a United States territory in the Mariana Islands, (Invasions Dates: July 21-August 10, 1944) Code Name: Operation Forager. Tuesday, July 25, 1944 he was killed in action during the liberation of the Island and buried in a Marine Corps battlefield cemetery on Guam. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were transferred to Honolulu, with interment in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, ‘Punchbowl’ Hawaii. In Memory, his name is inscribed on Panel Nine of the Memorial Wall located at the Asan Bay Overlook, Guam. Decorations and Citations: Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. The Bronze Star was awarded to the Marine for acts of heroism performed under fire. This American Patriot was also awarded the Purple Heart, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
