She got out of high school and followed her older sister to Washington D.C., Working as a secretary in the new Pentagon. She worked for a group of officers and typed up many documents with a reference to the 'Manhattan Project'. She lived in temporary housing next to the Lincoln Memorial and took a bus across the river to work. After the war she returned to Hibbing to live her life.
