Activity During WWII

He was trained as a radio operator and machine gunner, and flew 222 combat missions in the southwestern Pacific. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with one oak cluster for participating in more than 50 missions in 1943 to deliver supplies and transport troops over enemy territory. He also was awarded the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters and the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with six bronze stars.
