Rank: 1st Sergeant. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps October 5, 1939 and received his Basic Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Served in the Pacific Theater and experienced combat with the 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine ‘The Fighting Fourth’ Division. Participated in the amphibious assault on the Volcanic Island of Iwo Jima (Invasions Dates: February 19-March 26, 1945), Code Name: Operation Detachment. Saturday, February 24, 1945 he was killed in action and buried in the Fourth Marine Division battlefield cemetery on Iwo. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were returned to his country and family, with interment in the Waldheim Jewish Cemetery, Forest Park, Illinois on June 24, 1948. This Marine, was an American Patriot, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
