Activity During WWII

Rank: Private 1st Class. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps August 2, 1940 and received his Basic Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Deployed to the Southwest Pacific Theater and experienced combat with the Japanese Armed Forces, who had invaded the Philippine Islands on December 8, 1942. Assigned to the Headquarters Company, 4th Marine Regiment and served with a Marine Corps Guard Detachment aboard the French Cargo Steamship, Si-Kiang. Wednesday, December 24, 1941 he was killed in action when Japanese aircraft attacked his ship. The Steamship was transiting Manila Bay when it was bombed, strafed and set on fire off the coastal shoreline of Mariveles, Bataan. He was buried in a battlefield cemetery on Bataan and after the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were returned to his country and family. Accompanied by Military Escort, he was laid to rest, with interment in the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma San Diego, California on May 11, 1951. This Marine, was an American Patriot, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
