He was the Staff Medical Officer for the Invasion of Sicily in 1943, the Force Medical Officer for the Invasion of Normandy in 1944 and was in charge of the evacuation of casualties across the English Channel. He received the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit Award and the Order of the British Empire Officer and Commander. He retired from the military in 1947.
