Served in the 15th Army Air Corps and flew 16 missions as a ball turret (belly)gunner Armorer on a B-24 Liberator bomber. Plane was severely damaged by anti-aircraft fire over Brenner Pass in northern Italy. Assisted the pilot in crash landing the plane. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Oak Leaf cluster and Distinguish Unit Citation.
