Rank: Staff Sergeant. Inducted into the United States Army September 17, 1941 and deployed to the European Theater after completing his Combat Infantry Training. Served with Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 317th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry ‘Blue Ridge’ Division attached to the U.S. Third Army. Friday, November 10, 1944 he was killed in action during his division’s drive to the Delme Ridge in Northeastern France and buried in a battlefield cemetery in France. After the cessation of hostilities in Europe, his remains were returned to his country and family, with interment in the Oneida Cemetery, Oneida, Kansas. This Soldier, an American Patriot, so gallantly gave his life for his country.
