He proudly served his country when at 19 years old he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during WWII. As a naval pilot he was logged over 6,500 flight hours and was qualified as a Command Pilot in M and N class airships which at 350 feet long were among the largest ever flown. He also flew C-147 Aircraft in the Pacific. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
