Rank: Private 1st Class. He was a member of the Minnesota Army National Guard, who was inducted into Federal Service February 10, 1941 at Brainerd, Minnesota and received his Combat Infantry Training at Fort Lewis, Washington. Deployed to the Philippine Islands and experienced combat as an assistant Tank Driver/Gunner assigned to Alpha Company, 194th Tank Battalion. Participated in the Battle of Luzon when the Japanese Imperial Forces invaded the Philippine Islands on December 8, 1941. Tuesday, February 10, 1942 he was killed in action during the Battle of Bataan on Mt. Anatube, Zambales Philippine Islands and buried in the United States Air Force Battlefield Cemetery, Manila #2 Philippine Islands. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were transferred to the Manila American Cemetery located at Fort Bonifacio, Manila, Philippine Islands. This Soldier was an American Patriot, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
