Drafted and trained in Oklahoma and Texas. in combat with the 88th Infantry conducting reconnaissance patrols along and behind the German lines and in Italy. Awarded the Bronze Star for action on April 21, 1945. Wounded twice and received the purple heart and oak leaf cluster, and the French Croix de Guerre. Spent the last days of the war in Austria. Discharged in Maryland as private first class.
