He entered the U.S. Army on March 21, 1944 at Fort Douglas, Utah. He served as a Wireman in communications and was overseas from October 6, 1944 through April 30, 1946. He served in the campaigns of the Rhineland and Central Europe with the 399th Infantry, 100th Division, 7th Army. He also served in the occupation forces in Weilmunster, Germany. Received the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the European Theater ribbon with two battle stars and the Bronze Star Medal.
