Entered the Army at Fort Douglas near Salt Lake City in April of 1943. Completed Basic Training at Miami Beach, Florida. Became a member of the Army Air Corps and pilot training took him to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Ocala, Florida; Cochran Field in Georgia, and early in the year of 1944 to Blytheville, Arkansas. Reduction of the number of pilots needed was made and he was reassigned to Radio School. He was assigned as a Radio Operator on a B-29 crew stationed in Texas. He relocated to Hawaii in the latter part of 1945 and was assigned to a combat field on Tinian in the Pacific Ocean. WWII ended during his flight to Tinian. Spent 6 months on Tinian following the war’s end. He was discharged in February of 1946.
