Activity During WWII

He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve Training Unit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated with a commission as an Ensign in 1943. His first assignment was aboard the destroyer escort, USS Corry (DD-463) which was engaged in escort duty in the North Atlantic. He completed submarine school in New London, Connecticut and served aboard the USS Cutlass (SS-478), first as Communications Officer, 1st Lieutenant, Engineering Officer and finally Operations Officer. He became Executive Officer aboard the USS Cod (SS-224) and the USS Trumpetfish (SS-425). He retired a Captain.
