Rank: Private. Inducted into the United States Army August 6, 1943 at Portland, Oregon. Deployed to the Pacific Theater after completing his Basic Infantry Training and experienced combat with the 128th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Infantry ‘Red Arrow’ Division attached to the U.S. Sixth Army. Participated in the invasion and conquest of Leyte in the Philippine Island (Battle Dates: October 17–December 31, 1944). Saturday, November 25, 1944 he was killed in action while engaged in combat against the Japanese Imperial Forces and buried in the United States Air Force Cemetery, Leyte #1 Philippine Islands. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were transferred to the Manila American Cemetery located at Fort Bonifacio, Manila Philippine Islands. In Memory and Honor, his name is inscribed on Pillar XVII, Top Panel at the East Tennessee Veterans Memorial, Knoxville, Tennessee. Decoration and Citation: Purple Heart. This Soldier, an American Patriot awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
