He served as a troop and supplies transport pilot, flying C-46 and C-47 transport planes from Dutch Finschhafen, New Guinea to the Philippine Islands, where he flew troops and supplies to many points and places including Mindoro, Corregidor, Manila, dropping troops to free allied troops from the Los Banos prison camp. He also transported the first military police to be dispatched in Tokyo, Japan, just a few days after the Japanese surrendered, following the dropping of the atomic bombs.
