Rank: Private 1st Class. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps September 2, 1942 and received his Basic Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Corps Seventh Separate Recruit Battalion, New River, North Carolina. Served in the Pacific Theater and experienced combat with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine ‘the Fighting Third’ Division. Participated in the Battle of Bougainville, Code Name: Operation Cherry Blossom, Solomon Islands Campaign. Monday, November 1, 1943 he was killed in action on the first day of the invasion and buried in the U.S. Marine Corps Battlefield Cemetery on Bougainville. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were returned to his country and family, with interment in the Homestead Cemetery, Munhall, Pennsylvania. This Marine, an American Patriot so gallantly gave his life for his country.
