He was in Company E, 16th Infantry, 1st Division (Big Red One). He was inducted into the Army on September 29, 1943, and entered active service on October 20, 1943. His military Occupational Specialty was Rifleman 745, and his Military Qualification was Combat Infantryman Badge. Achieving the rank of PRIVATE FIRST CLASS, Rifleman Demolition, He fought the enemy in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, and the Rhineland (Germany). He fought in the D-Day Invasion, the Battle at St. Lo, and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Silver Star medal (GO 41 Headquarters 1st USA, July 18, 1944), European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with 5 Bronze Service Stars, Purple Heart (GO 19 Headquarters 1826 November 8, 1944), HONORABLE DISCHARGE Lapel Button and WWII Victory Medal. He was wounded in Germany on October 15, 1944. On December 1, 1945, he was Honorably Discharged with a certificate awarded as a testimonial of Honest and Faithful service to THE UNITED STATES.
