Activity During WWII

Rank: Sergeant. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps January 6, 1942 and received his Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Served in the Pacific Theater and experienced combat as a Squad Leader, assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, Fourth Marine ‘The Fighting Fourth’ Division. He participated in the amphibious assault on the Island of Saipan, Mariana Islands Campaign. Killed in action Thursday, June 15, 1944 on the first day of the invasion and buried in the Second and Fourth Marine Division Battlefield Cemetery on Saipan. Previously, he was involved in combat operations in the Solomon Islands and Marshall Islands campaigns. His remains returned to his family after the cessation of hostilities with Japan. Laid to rest in the Zion United Brethren Cemetery in Wauseon, Ohio. In Remembrance and Honor of the Brave, his name is inscribed in the Court of Honor located at the American Memorial on Saipan. This Marine, an American Patriot so gallantly gave his life for his country.
