Activity During WWII

Rank: Private 1st Class. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps December 7, 1943 and deployed to the Pacific Theater after completing his combat infantry training. Served as a Rifleman, assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, Second Marine ‘The Silent Second’ Division. He participated in the amphibious assault on the island of Tinian (Battle Dates: Monday, July 24–August 1, 1944) Northern Mariana Islands Campaign. Killed in action Wednesday, August 2, 1944 during mop-up operations, after all organized resistances had ceased with the Japanese Imperial forces and buried in the Marine Corps Battlefield Cemetery on Tinian. His remains returned to his family after the cessation of hostilities with Japan. Laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. This Marine, an American Patriot so gallantly gave his live for his country.
