Served in the Rhineland from 9 November 1944 to 11 July 1945 as a part of a rifle platoon in Company G, 22ND Infantry of the 4TH Infantry Division. He was wounded 24 November 1944 in the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest and recovered in England, returning to fight in the Battle of the Bulge and until the surrender in Europe.
