1945-1946 Drafted into Infantry, basic training in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Sent to Okinawa just after the island had been taken by the Americans. He was on a landing craft awaiting the signal to attack Japan when the atomic bomb was dropped. Served as Military Police in occupied Japan. 27th Division Artillery.
