He was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 28, 1944 and after training at Camp Blanding, Florida, he left for overseas duty in July, 1944. He was reported missing in action on October 4, 1944 and on October 9, 1944 the U.S. War Department notified his parents that he had been killed in action.
