He proudly served his country as a navigator in the U.S. Army Air Forces from April 1944 to September 1946 during WWII. He served in the 8th Air Force and flew 30 combat missions in a B-17 bomber primarily over Germany and Northern France. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern ribbon with 4 stars and the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf clusters. He was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant.
