A 1943 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, he enlisted in August of that year in the Army Air Corps Cadet Training program assigned to Podington, England. With the 92nd Bomb Group 407th squad, he flew 30 missions over Germany as a ball turret gunner on a B-17 bomber. Awarded many medals including the 4 oak leaf clusters. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
