Branch Seal
Activity During WWII

He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Honolulu, Hawaii when Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941. He picked up a weapon and started firing at the Japanese warplanes. He was driving one of about 40 trucks when the second wave of Japanese warplanes struck. He was one of the trucks on a bridge when it was strafed by the planes and he was wounded in the leg. He was unable to receive immediate medical attention since the medic riding next to him was killed. He was shipped home where he recovered from his wounds in California and was discharged. He then joined Navy Seabees and served in Saipan, Iwo Jima and the southern part of the Japanese mainland. Among his medals is the Purple Heart.
