He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Forces with the 351st Fighter Squadron, 353rd Fighter Group during WWII. He was killed in action on Saturday, August 5, 1944 and buried in Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, England. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart.
