Rank: Private. This Soldier, a member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard, was inducted into the United States Army September 16, 1940 at McAlester, Oklahoma. Deployed to the European Theater after completing his Basic Combat Infantry Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Camp Barkeley, Texas and served with Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry 'Thunderbird' Division. He participated in the amphibious assault landing during the invasion of Southern France (Battle Dates: August 15-September 14, 1944), Code Name: Operation Dragon. Killed in Action Sunday, August 20, 1944 near St. Maxime and buried in the Draguignan Battlefield Cemetery in Saint Raphael, France. Previous Combat Operations/Campaigns: Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Anzio and Rome-Arno. After the cessation of hostilities in Europe, his remains were transferred to the Rhone American Cemetery located at Draguignan (Var), France. Decoration and Citation: The Purple Heart, awarded posthumously to this Native American Indian, a Choctaw Code Talker and Patriot, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
