He started in the New York National Guard. By December 7, 1941 he had already been Federalized and was in Alabama receiving training. In February, 1942, he shipped out to serve in the South Pacific. He started at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and went on to such places as Okinawa, Guam and Saipan.
