He served in the Medical Detachment of the 363rd Infantry Regiment, 91st Infantry Division. They left the U.S. on 21 April 1944 and arrived in North Africa 18 May 1944 and crossed to Italy 19 June 1944. They were in the Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and Po Valley campaigns. He was enlisted in the army from 20 October 1943 until 6 November 1945. He earned the Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Medic Badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern campaign Medal (with 3 campaign stars), American Campaign Medal, and WWII Victory Medal.
