Eighth Air Force in England. Attended gunnery school in Fort Myers, Florida, and radio school at Salt Lake City, Utah. His phase training was taken at Boise, Idaho and Walla Walla, Washington. As gunner of a B-17, he Received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and 3 Oak Leaf Clusters for the successful completion of 25 missions, meritorious achievement in five separate combat missions over enemy occupied continental Europe. He also obtained the Good Conduct Medal and service bars for the American and European theaters of operation.
