served with 5th air force, 3rd bomb group, 8th bomb squadron in the southwest pacific theater of operations. He served as gunner on an a-24 dauntless dive bomber. on July 29, 1942, his dive bomber was one of eight a-24 aircraft that took off from 7-mile drome near port moresby, New Guinea on a mission to dive bomb Japanese ships off Gona, new guinea. the aircraft bombed in two waves. His was in the second wave and was shot down during the attack. awarded silver star, purple heart, American campaign medal, Asiatic-Pacific campaign medal, and WWII victory medal.
