On 12 March 1944, graduated with Advanced pilot class 44-C at Marfa Army Air Field, Texas. Pilot flying in the right seat, aboard B-29 Superfortress nicknamed 'Draggin Lady', serial #42-24694 (tail code Z-Square-6), 881st Bomb Squadron, 500th Bombardment Group (VH), 73rd Bomb Wing, XXI Bomber Command, 20th Air Force, stationed at Isley Field on Saipan in the Mariana Islands. On 23 February 1945, killed when Z-Square-6 crashed in the ocean off Saipan.
