Activity During WWII

Rank: Private 1st Class. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps February 6, 1943 and received his Basic Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Served in the Pacific Theater of operations and experienced combat as a Rifleman, assigned to Able Company, First Battalion an element of the Twenty Second Marine Regiment. He participated in the amphibious assault on the Island of Parry, ‘Battle of Eniwetok’ (Battle Dates: February 17-23, 1944), Solomon Islands Campaign. Killed in Action Tuesday, February 22, 1944, during combat operations against the Japanese Imperial Forces and buried in the Coral Sands battlefield cemetery on Kirinian Island. He had fought in a previous Combat Operation/Campaign: The Battle of Tutuila, American Samoa. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were returned his family, with interment in the Saint Joseph New Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Decorations and Citations: Purple Heart, Marine Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one Battle Star, and the WWII Victory Medal. This Marine, an American Patriot, awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
