Enlisted as an Aviation cadet in the Army Air Corps on 10 February 1941 at Jacksonville, Florida. Received pilot wings and a commission as a Second Lieutenant graduating with Class 41-G on 26 September 1941 at Kelly Field, Texas. Subsequently assigned to 413th Bomb Squadron, 96th Bombardment Group (Heavy), 45th Combat Bomb Wing, 8th Air Force at Royal Air Force Snetterton Heath, U.S. Army Air Forces Station #138. On Monday 28 June 1943, he flew as the Pilot aboard a Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress nicknamed 'Moore-Fidite II', serial #42-3326, to bombard German Forces occupying the locks and submarine pens at Saint-Nazaire, France. Encountered enemy fire from Luftwaffe aircraft, and crashed in the North Sea, near the North Frisian Islands off the western coast of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Initially listed as Missing in action, later declared Killed in action.
