Rank: Technical Sergeant. A member of the Texas Army National Guard was inducted into Federal Service November 25, 1940 at Abilene, Texas. Deployed to the European Theater of Operations, after completing his Basic Combat Infantry Training. Experienced combat as a member of the 142nd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry ‘Arrowhead’ Division attached to the U.S. Seventh Army. He participated in the amphibious assault landing during the invasion of Southern France (Battle Dates: August 15-September 14, 1944), Code Name: Operation Dragon. Killed in Action Tuesday, August 29, 1944 by German Artillery fire in the Battle of Montelimar and buried in the Draguignan Battlefield in Saint Raphael, France. After the cessation of hostilities in Europe, his remains were transferred to the Rhone American Cemetery in Draguignan, France. He had fought in previous combat Operations/Campaigns/Battles: Sicily, Anzio, Salerno and Rome-Arno. Decorations and Citations: Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster, American Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. This Soldier, an American Patriot, awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
