Rank: Private 1st Class. Inducted into the United States Army December 31, 1942 at Camp Selby, Mississippi and deployed to the Pacific Theater of Operations after completing his Basic Combat Infantry Training. Experienced combat as a member of Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 145th Infantry Regiment, a subordinate unit of the 37th Infantry ‘Buckeye’ Division attached to the U.S. Sixth Army. He participated in the Battle of Luzon, Philippine Islands (Battle Dates: January 9–August 15, 1945) Code Name: Operation Musketeer. Killed in action Saturday, May 12, 1945 during a combat engagement with the Japanese Imperial Forces and buried in the United States Armed Forces battlefield cemetery #2 located in Manila, Philippine Islands. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were returned to his family, with interment in the Orange Cemetery in Rose Hill, Mississippi. This Soldier, an American Patriot, so gallantly gave his life for his country.
