Entered the Army in 1941. Worked in a construction battalion in the Yukon building the AlCan Highway. Transferred to the Army Air Forces where he was a pilot on a B-17 aircraft and flew 2 missions with the 487th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force in 1945 over Germany.
