Rank: Baker 2nd Class. Inducted into the United States Navy December 5, 1942 at Boise, Idaho and completed his Basic Training at the U.S. Naval Training Station, Farragut, Idaho. Served as a baker aboard the Landing Ship Tank, LST-282 assigned to an Armada of U.S. Naval War Ships. This ship was involved in the amphibious assault landing in the invasion of Southern France, Code Name: Operation Dragon. Killed in Action Wednesday, August 15, 1944 when a German radio-guided winged bomb, Nickname: Buzz Bomb, flew into his ship that was approaching the landing area in the vicinity of Saint Raphael. During a series of deadly explosions, the LST that was transporting soldiers, ammunition and other military gear slowly sank into the waters off of the Rocky Shoreline of Cape Dramont. He was buried in the Draguignan battlefield cemetery in Saint Raphael, France. After the cessation of hostilities in Europe, his remains were returned to his family, with interment in the Cloverdale Memorial Cemetery in Boise, Idaho. This Seaman, an American Patriot, so gallantly gave his life for his country.
